Jeff Gurvich December 7, 2020 There is no such thing as too reliable when it comes to pistol tickets. For the past year I have been using the Tyrant Designs (TD) Glock 19 & 23 Magazine Extension (+5 rounds) on my Glock 19. During this time, it is constantly charging (except, of course, when using it at range). ), and has been my primary EDC (Every Day Carry) loadout. Tyrant Designs magazine extensions are machined aluminum and are available in a variety of colors. Extra power magazine spring included. With the G19 in 9mm and a +5 mag extension, that's a total of 20 rounds in the stock magazine. There are two things that stand out about the Tyrant Designs plugin: First, the way the engine works. Instead of being completely smooth, the extension has… I call them “cuts”… on the sides, giving them a cool look and a positive grip. The second and more important is how the extension locks into the magazine. Instead of using set screws that require a tool to tighten or some sort of sliding locking bar to hold it in place, the Tyrant's extended baseplates use springs and a piston to hold the baseplate in the magazine. Once it's slid over the magazine, the plunger pops up and locks it in place. The only tool needed to remove it is something flat like a flat head screwdriver or the edge of a knife blade to push down on the piston to remove it. The Tyrant Designs G19 Magazine Extension increases capacity up to 20 rounds in a standard G19 magazine. The flagpole locks tightly in place with a spring and piston, so you don't have to worry about the screws loosening. So why release an expansion for the compact G19 pistol? Need extra laps? Why not just carry a G17 magazine? True, you can, but it only gives a plus two compared to a standard 15 round magazine. The G19 magazine with the Tyrant Designs Mag Extension has a capacity of 20+1 rounds. When holstered and used against the body, it has just a slightly longer profile than a full-size G17 (Glock 17) mag, so why not shoot five more rounds? (17 instead of 20 in the log). I often carry spare magazines for EDC. But when I do, it's much easier to carry one 20 rounder (G19 mag with extension) than two spares. If I have to use a gun, I know my single load will provide plenty of extra shots. The G19 15 magazine with the Tyrant Designs Magazine Extension has almost the same profile as the G17 magazine when carried in the holster, but the G17 magazine holds three extra rounds, for a total of 20 rounds. For quality and reliability, I've purposely dropped the Mag extension both fully and partially loaded in the range to see if I can get it to work. It goes through without a problem. And as mentioned above, I've been loading it up for months to see if the spring kits cause any problems. A year later, it's still working flawlessly. Minimalist EDC: G19 with one spare magazine. Considering it now has 20s, that's quite a few extra rounds if you need them. Here at DR, I've previously reviewed a few Tyrant Designs products (see "Related Articles" below): their Glock Extended Magazine Release, G43 Magazine Extension, and their Halo AR-15 Hand Stop. I still use the Halo Hand Stop on my main competition rifle, and I liked the Glock Extended Mag Release so much that I bought two in addition to the one we were given for review to equip the rest of my Glocks with. After reviewing the Tyrant Designs Extended Magazine Release, I like it so much that I bought enough for all my Glocks. (From left to right: GEN 5 G19, G45, G19X). When I originally got the TD G19 Mag extension (early 2020), the only option available was the G43 extension. Tyrant Designs currently offers magazine extensions for G19 magazines as well as G17 magazines: G17, 34, 19X and G45 as well as G22 magazines. They also offer a standard base plate if someone just wants to upgrade from OEM plastic to aluminum while still keeping the same capacity. Additionally, they offer a mag extension for the S&W Shield pistol. Tyrant Designs Magazine Extension currently retails for $35.96. That's a few bucks less than most other brands, and they also now offer pre-assembled Glock magazines with the extension and spring installed. The Wrap Up This is the third review I've done for Tyrant Designs products. If you couldn't already tell, I'm a fan of these products. They offer unique and reliable machined aluminum products for both pistols and rifles at very competitive prices. So I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
