, this pack should serve you well on long trips. In some cases, parts of the package can be replaced with new ones. It is still far from a modern nylon gap.

From the inside it is a simple affair: it has a large main space closed with a piece of wire. Dimensions seam to seam approx 30-35 x 40 x 26 cm / (12" - 14" x 15.5" x 10"). The pack is wider from top to bottom.
The main compartment is covered with a large lid, closed with a traditional single-stitch buckle system. You can make more holes on the strip if needed.
The cover has leather attachment points for possibly a musket tool and that large, interesting looking piece is for a spade (our best guess). On the sides, you will find attachment points for a blanket/canvas roll and on the other side, there is a handy pouch for a wine bottle or canteen.

Anyone familiar with German WW2 gear will immediately recognize the elevation system, and those who aren't will have to stop and think a bit. We will simplify it: a thin strap with a loop must be attached to the hook at the bottom of the pack. Large straps with hooks are for anchoring to combat belt gear.
Yes, the strap will come out of the bag easily. This feature is good for military use when you need to quickly dump the package, but not so convenient in civilian life. The easiest hack is to tap the hook "closed" so the loops don't slip. Another trick is to cut the thin strips at their base and simply tie the thick strip as you wish. This seems simpler, but we will leave the historical integrity aspects to the reader.
This "old" thing definitely has very strong vibes from the days of tourniquet packs that were small and difficult to use. Although it is not one of them, it looks like one. We find production dates of the 70s and 80s, which is really a small surprise, since the design seems to belong to the 50s or something. Well done, Romania!
Usually very little used, but old. We strongly recommend cleaning the package with a damp rag and treating the leather with a generous amount of grease. The mummy warehouse smell will eventually dissipate with use.
