The proposed NGSW weapon uses a sponsor-designed cartridge with a government-issued 6.8mm multi-purpose bullet. It also provides other Department of Defense services and possibly foreign military vendor countries the opportunity to purchase NGSW weapons.
The XM5 rifle will replace the M4/M4A1 carbine in close combat forces. And the XM250 automatic rifle is the replacement plan for the M249 Squad automatic weapon.
